The Chinese company behind the popular app TikTok, ByteDance, is working on its own SmartPhone.
According to Nashville News one of the most important app builders in the world is developing its own mobile phone. According to the source, the CEO of ByteDance has long dreamed of having his own smartphone on which many ByteDance apps are installed as standard.
At the moment, the app company has one of the most popular apps in the world, the karaoke network TikTok, in its portfolio. In addition, it also has the news app Jinri Toutiao and would work on a Spotify competitor.
Deal with SmartPhone maker
Earlier this year, the company took over part of the Chinese smartphone company Smartisan. Then ByteDance said it was a collaboration to ‘discover the educational market’, but it may also be related to the company’s smartphone ambitions.
The smartphone must be completely focused on and around ByteDance. It is also the intention that the smartphone comes with pre-installed apps from the company. No idea who is waiting for that, but according to ByteDance there is a market for that. The tech company refuses any comment on the rumors. It remains to be seen what ByteDance will soon be coming up with.
It is also unknown whether the company will first focus on China and India with the smartphone, or whether it is already looking at Western countries. The price has also not been discussed.
Facebook Phone
ByteDance would not be the first major brand to take a strange step towards smartphone production. For example, the Facebook smartphone HTC First and the Amazon smartphone Fire Phone were introduced earlier. Both phones flopped completely and did not get a second version.
